Power plant operator achieves 64% ROI with ABB turbocharger upgrades

A commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of ABB shows ABB turbocharger upgrades can bring business benefits and cost savings to application operators.

The study, which demonstrates that ABB turbocharger upgrades can maximize engine output, increase fuel efficiency, and lower operating temperatures, leading to reduced thermal stress, was based on an independent interview with a major power plant operator following completion of ABB turbocharger upgrades on three engines.

According to the study, the turbocharger upgrades had the following economic impact on the organization's business operations over a period of three years:

• Return on investment (ROI): 64%

• Net present value (NPV): $1.4 million

• Payback: 11 months

• Power output increase: 2.4%

In addition to the quantifiable business benefits, the interviewed organization experienced a number of unquantified benefits as a result of the upgrade.
