New short-wavelength pyrometer for demanding applications

The short-wavelength measurement technology of the PyroUSB 2.2 provides many advantages over other types of sensor, including:

- Higher measurable temperature (up to 2000°C) - ideal for furnaces, incinerators, and applications in the iron and steel industries

- Lower measurable temperature than other short-wavelength sensors: as low as 45°C. This allows good readings in applications that were previously impossible, such as measuring hot food temperatures through glass.

- Accurately measure reflective targets - the short-wavelength measurement is less prone to errors due to variations in emissivity or an incorrect emissivity setting

- Measure more accurately through obstructions, such as steam and dust, than other sensor types

PyroUSB 2.2 sensors connect directly to a PC via USB using the included cable and software. They can operate without the need for any additional hardware interface or power supply.

All models also have a selectable 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA output. This can be used at the same time as the USB interface or independently.

The included software is simple to install and requires no specialist knowledge to use. It provides the following features:

- Temperature display

- Scrolling temperature chart

- Sensor configuration (output scale, emissivity, reflected energy compensation, filtering, peak or valley hold processing)

- Data acquisition with scheduled start

- OPC Server interface for communication with other software such as LabView

A choice of optics allows measurement of small or large targets at short or long distances, and an optional cooling jacket is available for high ambient temperatures. For dusty environments, an air-purge collar can be fitted to keep the lens clean.

PyroUSB sensors are CE marked, RoHS compliant, and conform to EN 61326-1:2006 for EMC. They are designed and built by Calex Electronics in the UK, a company with more than 30 years'' experience of infrared temperature measurement.

All models are available to order now.
