Miniature ball screws support high-tech innovation for digitized dental equipment

Miniature ballscrew cold formed

New digitization methods produce "jaw-dropping" results. A special 5-axis scanner makes dental restoration possible without the uncomfortable imprint procedure. Eichenberger AG, the thread-rolling specialist, successfully developed the key mechanical parts of this revolutionary scanner and has brought them from initial sampling into full production. In this high-tech era, even simple mechanical components have to meet the most stringent requirements. The miniature version of the Carry cold-rolled ball screw, (4 mm ø, 1 mm pitch), is a small component which has proven to be a big success, from the economic, efficiency and quality points of view.

The scanner, with its uniquely designed method of operation, enables digitization to be performed in record time either fully automatically or in manual mode. Imprints, partial and full jaw models can be scanned in less than 1 minute. The five-axis scanner is also able to scan the palatal area. A slightly modified version of Eichenberger's Carry 4x1 ball screw satisfies all the requirements, allowing the new-generation positioning scanner to achieve breakthrough levels of efficiency and flexibility of movement.

Development services provider

There is a constant need to solve practical challenges. Eichenberger has turned these opportunities into success stories. Now, with custom-designed rolled threaded drives, they are firmly established in the drive technology niche. The Swiss thread rolling specialist has clear objectives: Thread rolling (cold forming) and manufacture of threaded drives (spindles and nuts) and supporting their customers' innovation using the latest production methods and developing new dimensions.

As a manufacturer in Switzerland's high cost manufacturing base, the challenge is to develop high technical added value in a competitive product which is priced to the market.

Competitive advantage comes not just from technological know-how, research and development but also from efficiency skills in mastering the manufacturing process. When the inventor of the product is also its most economic manufacturer, this can be a recipe for success, especially in Switzerland's manufacturing base.

Carry:

Wear-free ball screws for applications for moving high loads at low energy consumption. Some versions support very high travel speeds.

Speedy:

The steep-threaded spindle (with high travel speed) transforms linear movements into rotations. New: some parts are available in aluminium

Easy:

The hard-anodised lightweight spindle is made of aluminium and has an efficiency of over 0.8 for moving higher loads than those handled by normal slide screws. Its specially-designed profile prevents the nut from jamming.

Rondo:

The round thread spindle has very smooth running characteristics. New: some parts are available in aluminium
