New GIS electric chain hoist LP500

Powerful, quiet and weatherproof

For more than 50 years, the GIS AG based in the Lucerner Schötz, develops and produces electric chain hoists and sells them worldwide through their distribution partners. The innovative KMU has a great success with the new LP-series. Already in the conceptual stage, the specific requirements of the entertainment industry such as dead weight, noise emission or outdoor use were taken into account and included into the specification of new development.

Retrospectively, Ivan Muri, the CEO of GIS AG, comments as follows: "We wanted to develop an electric chain hoist for the smallest product of the generation LP, which is as light and handy as possible whereby it can be applied also for mobile usage. We achieved this with a model, which can lift impressive 320 kg at a dead weight of 12 kg. We aligned the construction of the new electric chain hoist with the needs of the entertainment industry. For example, the second independent DC spring-loaded brake for the D8-plus-design can be assembled on the present shaft without using a housing extension."

"The performance features could have been significantly improved", adds Erich Widmer, the manager of Sales and Marketing of GIS AG. The model LP500 lifts with the1 fall design entire 800 kg instead of the previous 500 kg and this with the same life cycle and switching frequency as the previous model. Depending on its application, either the lifting capacity increases up to 60% or the customer profits from a four times life cycle of the chain hoist in case of the present lifting capacity of 500 kg.

"The self-contained, helical cut, three-stage transmission with permanent grease lubrification ensures a significant quieter operation of the electric chain hoist LP“, explains Ivan Muri. Noise emission was clearly reduced from 75 dB to 65 dB due to this "black box" in the chain hoist housing, the chain wheel with 5 pockets as well as the horizontal and vertical supported chain. The entire chain fall is designed with a statistical safety factor of not less than 8 (in FEM 2m/ISO M5). Thereby the wear of the components is decreased and the life cycle is extended. The case-hardened and manganese phosphated profile steel chain offers, compared to conventional round steel chains, a 15% higher capacity at the same nominal diameter. Furthermore, this chain has an excellent corrosion resistance and improved dry running properties."

"Essential is the benefit of protection class IP65 which is newly included in the standard version." explains Widmer. "It guarantees dust tightness and protection of water jets. With its compact and robust design the LP is suitable for dusty environments as well as for outdoor use. During operation as climbing hoist, rain water can enter the chain wheel area. The liquid drain which is included in the housing allows the water to run off the opposite side of the chain hoist without any occurrence of corrosion damages."

"Special attention during the development was given to the modularity and the low maintenance costs with easy accessibility to wear parts. The LP500 is simple in its assembly and does not contain any sensitive electronics. All shaft-hub connections are built in a self-centring polygonal design. Thus disassembly and assembly is faster and no special tools are needed, which reduces the service costs. Wear parts like chain or chain wheel can be replaced within a few steps and without disassembly of the entire chain hoist", explains the CEO Muri.

"The entertainment industry's huge interest shows us that we are on the right track with our new developments and that we can cover their needs optimally", states Widmer happily. "Incremental and absolute encoder for path measurement, load measuring pin, external limit switches, temperature or brake monitoring and accessories can be easily added to the standard version. The combination of functionality, modularity, reliability and long-lasting products is appreciated by international costumers and captures the zeitgeist. It allows us as manufacturers to extend the product warranty to 3 years", summarises Erich Widmer.
