HEGEWALD & PESCHKE DELIVERS TESTING MACHINE TO ENGEL FOR CABLE TESTING

Testing machine with extensive accessories for cable quality assurance

Founded in 1945, Engel is the world's largest manufacturer of injection moulding machines. The company produces for a wide range of industries such as automotive engineering, medical technology, electronics and communications. For quality assurance, Engel now uses a universal testing machine Inspekt table blue 20 kN from Hegewald & Peschke. With the help of this testing machine, tensile and tensile tests are carried out on cable strands, which are later installed in switch cabinets. The extensive range of accessories supplied with the testing machine includes the 20kN load cell, a 3kN load cell, a single wrapping fixture TH170-50 and a pair of wedge clamps with clamping jaws for flat specimens with saw tooth profile.

In addition, two new test tools from MAV were used: a clamping bell housing, designed for tensile strength testing of up to 10kN on assembled cables - cables with plugs, ferrules or cable lugs etc. and a self-clamping cable clamp.

Cable pull-out test with tension bell

The tension bell is 90mm in diameter and is pivoted, like a revolver, in which the 8 tension slots (from 1.5 to 25mm wide) are used to clamp the assembled cables. Furthermore, there is a holding arbor on the clamping bell with 3 steps (8,12 and 16mm). This mandrel is used on cables with ring terminals.

The tool is attached to the lower fixed crosshead using an adapter set from Hegewald & Peschke. On the opposite side, the cable is then clamped into the wedge clamp. A cable extraction test is then carried out. The required tensile force is determined, at which the cable detaches from the respective plug. Alternatively, a creep test is carried out in which the connector is exposed to a specific force for a certain period of time.

Cable extraction test with cable tensioner

The self-clamping cable tensioner is also used for cable extraction tests, but only up to 3kN. Its clamping range is 0-20mm. The special feature of this testing tool is that under load, the two eccentric rollers are adjusted evenly and the clamping pressure is increased.
