A mobile winch at a height of 100 m: A Huchez innovation

To move the hull of ships in a shipyard in Nigerian harbor, a crane with imposing proportions – 100 meters high and 50 ton capacity – is at work every day.

One problem: how to lift the spares parts used from time to time for the maintenance of the crane to warranty its good and safe functioning. With this height of 100 meters, the use of a hoist is not possible. Another solution had to be found.

An equipment to lift the load, but also to translate it 100 meters up had to be designed! A new challenge faced by the engineering department of the French manufacturer HUCHEZ.

A Huchez performance

The solution: to make the winch mobile. To limit the height of the grip and balance the system, an electrical trolley has directly been integrated to an INDUSTRIA multilayer electric winch. Installed onto a jib crane, itself also installed on the crane, the winch is moving along the jib crane. The lifting and translating of the load can be done and the maintenance of the crane is made in the best conditions.

Huchez engineer’s team has worked on each and every step of the project : specifications study, technical analysis of feasibility, advise, design of the preliminary project, manufacturing, set up, tests, technical assistance….

- Interface Chassis between winch / trolley,

- C5Ma ANV painting system with certificate.

This equipment will be installed in February 2016 on the shipyard, after the required 5 month from the design and manufacture phases up to the tests phases.

Performance and innovation already promising new projects. HUCHEZ received enquiries for several similar requests when a hoist was not an option for use at very great heights in the industry sector, construction or to equip scientific mission ship to lower and raise diving equipment or launch probes into the open sea ...
