Extremely high resistance to corrosion and low temperatures

HUMMEL AG puts JAEGER-connectors to the salt-spray test

The Marine series circular connectors feature an extremely high level of corrosion resistance even when used in marine environments, as has been recently proven by the salt-spray tests carried out by HUMMEL AG. The ‘connecteurs’ from their French subsidiary, JAEGER, were exposed to salt spray for 1,000 hours. The result: the extreme stress placed upon the components was hardly visible.

The main reason for this goes by the name of ARCAP, a copper-nickel-zinc alloy from which the Marine series connectors are manufactured. ARCAP is non-magnetic since it does not contain iron. The alloy is highly resistant to chemical corrosion, oxidation and large temperature fluctuations.

The connectors also feature excellent mechanical properties: the metal is very simple to reform in an annealed state and has high tensile strength. ARCAP is also very capable of being cut by chip removal.

The round connectors from the Marine series were specially conceived for harsh environments – waterproof up to depths of 100 metres and capable of functioning reliably in temperature ranges of -140 to +100 degrees Celsius. The product range encompasses cable connectors, coupling connectors, and device plugs with flange or rear mounting. The contact inserts from the Marine series allow for a range of three to 37 contacts, which feature gold-plated brass contacts in inserts made of neoprene.

A great deal of importance is also placed on ergonomics. The screw cap with its handy knurled nut is especially easy to attach, which is essential due to the harsh conditions on-site, which frequently make such applications very difficult.

The connectors are used in marine sectors, such as shipbuilding, offshore environments and the oil/gas sector. These corrosion-resistant round connectors are also put to use in the food and beverage industry.
