Improved HEVC / 4K performance - ready today

Augsburg, GERMANY, June 10, 2015 – Kontron, a leading supplier of embedded computing technology (ECT), announced today the introduction of next generation SYMKLOUD modular servers featuring processors from the Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v4 family. This will provide up to 20% more channel density for video transcoding ISVs who seek to market ultra-high-density converged modular solutions to regional and global providers of cloud-based mobile and fixed video delivery services.

Performance enhancements from the integrated Intel® Iris™ Pro graphics P6300 and Integrated Intel® Quick Sync Video are expected to enable telecom, cable and digital TV broadcasters to push the delivery envelope with more than 4300 HD (1080p, 30 fps) simultaneous live or ‘on-demand'' video streams in a single rack using 20 SYMKLOUD platforms (assume remaining 2U for TOR switch).

At the platform level, a single 2U / 21-inch deep SYMKLOUD will typically support up to 180 HD 1080p, 30 fps streams, and is now expected to achieve up to 216 HD streams with the Intel E3-1200 v4 processor, an increase that leads to a significant advantage in channel density, a reduced footprint, and lower operating expenses.

By implementing a GPU framework to process video, more CPU units are available to run simultaneous tasks, such as data analytics that measure, analyze, and interpret streaming content. The performance increases achieved by the tight integration of compute and graphics in the same processor also help further reduce power consumption and accelerate data treatment. A growing ecosystem of ISVs and industry partners are leveraging the Intel® Media Server Studio to simplify their media application development on the Intel processor graphics and enable hardware assisted encode and decode, on either Linux or Windows.

The SYMKLOUD Series integrates infrastructure level compute, storage and redundant front-access 1GbE and 10GbE switches, and is the comprehensive high density platform to launch cloud-based and virtualized multiscreen video delivery services...
