Omal S.p.A won the Procurement Award “Beyond Saving” 2016 in the category “Ethical and Sustainable Purchases”, only one SME in the competition.

Historical result for OMAL S.p.A that on May 19th 2016 at Unicredit Pavillion (Milan) ranked first at the “Procurement Award” 2016 in the category “Ethical and Sustainable Purchases” with its project “Green-IN”. The competition was aimed at selecting the best practices carried out by the Purchasing Offices, organized in: Best Negotiations, Innovation, Team Purchasing and, finally, Ethical And Sustainability Purchases.

In a sector, that of industrial automation, where suppliers are all strongly interconnected and companies heavily target developing countries to source raw materials, the challenge won by OMAL was that of replicating the values that characterize the company – passion, respect and sense of duty – in developing markets, adopting Social Innovation logics to strenghten their global reach.

More precisely, in the category “Ethical and Sustainable Purchases” OMAL presented a project carried out in China since 2013 seeking to improve the market relationships with a local supplier of cast iron, who for three years was helped by OMAL technicians to improve the quality of his products and industrial processes, no least by training him on more ecological production processes and more effective negotiations’ procedures.

The committee recognized the “courage to assist a foreign supplier looking beyond the typical behaviours of a buyer” – which are usually just looking at lowering costs - “thus enforcing a process of continuous improvement measured by social and environmental indicators”.

The strategy adopted by OMAL to win the current challenges faced by the procurement operations implies the willingness to work with passion and dedication, something that OMAL is being doinge since 1981, with a structural analysis od social and environmental impacts, whose measurements is carried out by OMAL Social Innovation office, translating ethical values into marketing results from a Brand Reputation point of view.

GREEN-in is part of the Social Innovation Strategy “Walk the Talk”, which OMAL has just started to implement by integrating it within all the internal units: a long path towards excellency undertaken by a company whose pay-off is “Empowered Performance”… than just wait and see.
