Concrete paving has a reputation of being particularly durable. However, this is also crucially dependent upon professional preparation of the base and correct execution of the installation work. Clever tools from Probst help professionals to produce professional work here. The key to durability of a concrete paving surface lies in correct installation. To be safe from subsidence, cracks or pervasive weeds in the long term, everything must fit: the laying course, installation and joints must be executed cleanly.

Level and sustainable laying course

How well the “top” withstands loads is determined by the quality of the “bottom”. One rule of thumb states: the unevenness of the laying course surface must be equal to no more than one centimetre over four metres.

Fully automated systems, for example such as the Powerplan PP surface finisher or the levelling pusher blade from Probst, use ultrasound skis, lasers or even tilt sensors for this. Owing to their technology, they allow installation of both the coarse and the fine laying course, each in only one process. With the surface finisher, an area of up to 10,000 m2 can therefore be installed at absolutely the correct height in just one day.

However, even smaller construction sites need not forego the Probst comfort. Anyone who uses a wheel loader can conveniently use it to pull the telescopic screeding bucket over the surface to be levelled. The robust screeding buckets can be telescoped continuously and finely adjusted again by means of height-adjustable rollers on the side, such that the desired working height is maintained reliably. For even smaller surfaces, although for completely manual use, the Teleplan screeding system or the Easyplan-Uni manual screeding system from Probst are offered. The laying course can therefore be created over variable removal widths without going on your knees – i.e. therefore very ergonomically – and with a high level of accuracy. Consequently, even the semi-automated or manual techniques can easily match the fully automated with respect to quality.

Level and exact paving surface

The quality presented by the laying course must continue to be kept high when installing the concrete paving, in order to guarantee durability of the surface. A level and straight course with even joint axes is therefore a question not only of appearance but also of quality, as surface water can run off unimpeded and does not accumulate in a way that is undesired. For laying the broadest range of interlocking paving stone shapes, Probst offers a multitude of hydraulic attachment clamps, which can be universally attached and therefore operated on wheel loaders, compact or mini diggers, or even directly on the Multimatic or Pavermax installation machines from Probst. The attachment clamps have a special pressing device, which presses the stones fully automatically onto the laying course when the clamp is opened. Tilting of the stones and therefore impairment of the laying course are thus avoided and the joint appearance is formed evenly.

Final jointing

After the level laying course and accurately installed paving, well inserted or filled joints finish off the perfect work. With the Easyfill paver jointing device from Probst, this work takes place almost by itself. For larger areas, sweeping brooms are suitable, which can be attached to carrier machines or to the Probst installation machines. All these devices have one thing in common: they brush the material optimally into all joint indentations and thus contribute to the stability of the paving surface.

With the handling devices and machines from Probst, pavers have tools to hand, which are gentle on knees and backs owing to their ergonomics and therefore not only make the work easier but also save workers in the long term. Ultimately, persistent and motivated workers also contribute to delivering top quality.
