Sales App Displays 3D Diagrams

ONU One, a 3D catalog app with a cloud-based management system, can display product images and animated diagrams to make lead generation easier

Company president Sam Sesti has a background in enterprise software and productization. The business is a family affair, with his cousin Zak Sesti on board as chief architect. Chief Strategist Sean Hurwitz was a friend, for whom Sam Sesti consulted before the three of them began ONU.

The idea for the business came from a designer, who told Sam Sesti and Hurwitz that there was no easy way to show 3D models to clients at a trade show or during door-to-door advertising. Carrying around a laptop loaded with Solidworks was cumbersome and awkward, the designer said, so Sesti and company went to work.

ONU One can display Solidworks or CAD files in .obj format, and are working on allowing ONU One to accept more formats. Its polygonal base models are slightly less detailed than those that can be produced in CAD, but Sesti said that simplicity is part of the app’s security features, too: the model shows only an outer envelope, so competitors cannot reverse-engineer the design.

“Our differentiation really is the 3D aspect,” Sesti said. “There are plenty of websites out there that allow you to create an app…we’re allowing to create a more compelling, engaging presentation through the use of the 3D modeling.”

Users are limited only by their own experience with 3D modeling and animation. Once files are transferred into the ONU One app, they can be shared on iPhone, iPad, or Android devices. ONU One can also display 2D photographs, videos, and PDF documents. Lead tracking features can tell business owners what their audience is looking at and how long they view it.

Next, Sesti said, the company plans to smooth out the uploading process with more automated file conversion. They are also considering a remote lead tracking module, so that 3D files and other media can be sent to a potential customer remotely.

“This is something that originated with [designers] in mind,” Sesti said. “We do think we understand their needs and are looking for early adopters to come on now and give us more feedback.”

ONU One will be available in mid-June, with a 30-day free trial. Subscriptions start at $99 per user per month to display 10 products, with higher-priced tiers available for 100 or unlimited numbers of products.
