What Green Materials Go Into a Ford Vehicle?

Ford is no stranger to biomaterials. Their 1940s prototype “soybean car” used plastic panels made from this legume over a metal framework

While the experiment didn’t launch an industrial revolution, today’s Ford includes an average of 10 to 20 kilos of renewables, depending on type of vehicle. The company uses about 300 different parts made from sustainable sources and recycled items. These include plastic bottles, rubber and waste from other firms. This reduces weight and the carbon footprint. Rice hulls replacing fiberglass in wiring harnesses and instrument panel foam made from castor oil are among the surprising products already found in certain vehicles.
