Improved Ethernet/IP Encoders

Ethernet/IP (Ethernet Industrial Protocol based on OSI model) is a comprehensive interface technology comprised of an open communication protocol at the application layer, Ethernet at the physical layer and Internet protocol at the network layer. Unlike other networks, Ethernet/IP is a full duplex, Star topology based active infrastructure featuring virtually unlimited number of nodes. In addition, multivendor interoperability enables flexible designs which are easy to setup, operate, maintain and expand. POSITAL Ethernet/IP encoder is a well developed and proven Ethernet solution suitable for real time applications with large sensor network, requiring efficient yet time critical data “anytime and anywhere”. The internal diagnostics functionality makes the encoder even more reliable.

Compliance with IEEE Ethernet Standards

The OCD supports multivendor interoperability and provides users with variable interface speeds of up to 1GBps and capacity to handle up to 1500 bytes per packet.

‘Endless Shaft’ Mode

Although some encoders allows the user to program the desired number of steps per revolution and total resolution, the period of measurement (Total resolution/steps per revolution) is often subjected to a limitation that it should always be an integer. This problem is overcome by POSITAL Ethernet/IP encoders which automatically activate the “endless shaft” mode for continuous measurements if the period is not an integer.

Velocity Filter

To manage the noise in measurement of velocity, user can switch between Fine/Middle/Raw classes of filter for fine adjustment and best noise filtration.

Adaptable

Complete adaptation to the application is possible by simple software parameter variations when deemed necessary, without use of any ASICs, FPGAs or any extra devices. The programming parameters include setting of resolution, preset value, IP address and direction of counting. The implemented software can also deliver the current velocity of the measurand in various available velocity formats. The POSITAL Ethernet/IP encoder uses a more efficient use of bandwidth than device network and can be configured to operate in a master/slave or distributed architecture using peer to peer communication. 6 diagnostic LEDs for status indication are also very useful for easy fault analysis and error detection/correction.
