Virtual reality is no longer just a gamer’s domain

Industry is embracing the new technology for training pilots, engineers and others. The attraction is 360° video/audio simulation that puts users in an environment mimicking real life. This is especially important for training those destined to work in potentially dangerous situations, including astronauts. Armed forces employ VR to train tank commanders and headsets enable prospective recruits to “experience” a typical mission. In addition, such vivid simulations can help management determine staff training potential. As the technology becomes more sophisticated, users are increasingly replacing expensive custom, in-house systems with off-the-shelf units, opening the door to widespread adoption.
