Holography: VR Without Glasses

The generation of 3D data is exploding in product design, simulation, medical scanning and other domains

But visualizing it in detail is problematic. Holography, the decades-old “illusory” technology could float to the rescue. It soon should be possible to render 3D data as a hologram that makes real objects appear to hover in midair. This would enable engineers and scientists to examine them from any angle. The related process of dynamic holography—slowing rather than stopping light—requires too much processing power for small mobile devices. But Jaguar is already using it to project a heads-up display of vehicle data onto the windshield of certain models.
