Video. Smart Machining is Just an App Away

Applications for phones and tablets are pushing machining into the digital age

For example, a Bluetooth connection can enable operators to adjust boring head parameters via a tablet. The display shows adjustments in real time, boosting precision. Making such changes with the tool in the spindle, especially for tight tolerances, is highly advantageous. Apps containing extensive cutting data can recommend tool choice and other options. One company developed a question-and-answer app to make cutting operations more intuitive, allowing operators to “tap” their way through the intended process on a screen. Eventually, remote electronic machine tool control could become the norm.
