Food Cloud

A Japanese farming experiment is looking to the cloud for predictability

The Akisai greenhouse project has been producing long-life, low-potassium lettuce since 2014. Sensors send vital environmental data to the cloud in real time. This enables remote management, with certain adjustments being performed automatically. Chemical-free and hosting few microbes, the lettuce is consumable without washing. Another program uses cloud-linked pedometers to help ranchers judge when cows are ready for artificial insemination. The cloud also allows Japanese agricultural experts to offer remote advice to farmers in Vietnam using the Akisai system, which has been installed in some Turkish greenhouses, as well.
