BREAKTHROUGH LAYERLESS 3D PRINTING CREATES FASTER, STRONGER PRINTS

CLIP Technology Produces Objects 100 times Faster Than Current 3D printers

Many tongues were wagging last week as Carbon 3D revealed its new Continuous Liquid Interface Production technology (CLIP) that uses light and oxygen to “continuously grow objects from a pool of resin instead of printing them layer-by-layer.”is considered a breakthrough technology that directly challenges 3D printing, and if Carbon 3D CEO and Co-Founder Dr. Joseph DeSimone is to be believed it already surpasses most 3D printing systems for both speed and quality of finished product. In fact, CLIP produces objects at a rate of 25-100 times faster than 3D printers.

DeSimone made the comment that existing “3D printing technology has failed to deliver on its promise to revolutionize manufacturing” and cannot compete with traditional manufacturing speeds or quality. Jonathan Rowley, of Digits2Widgets a 3D printing firm in the UK, believes the added strength of CLIP-made objects is the real game changer, he said “If you add the speed of this technology to the extra strength it provides it means you could produce parts that start to compete with traditional manufacturing. It’s probably something of a big deal.”
