Isolated RS-485 Transceiver Resides In 4 mm x 5 mm QSOP

Trumpeted as the industry’s smallest isolated RS-485 differential bus transceiver providing 4 Mb/s bidirectional data transmission for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) networks, the ISL32704E isolated RS-485 transceiver measures 4 mm x 5 mm in a QSOP. Described as being 70% smaller than comparable devices, it also provides 600 VRMS of working voltage.

The transceiver leverages giant magnetoresistance (GMR) technology to provide galvanic isolation that keeps the communication bus free from common-mode noise generated in electrically noisy factory and building automation environments. Features and specifications include 2.5-kVRMS isolation per UL 1577 standard, 600-VRMS working voltage per VDE 0884 standard, support for 3V to 5V power supplies, single unit load allows up to 32 devices on the bus, 50-kV/µs (typ), 30-kV/µs (min) common-mode transient immunity, a barrier lifetime of 44,000 years, and 15-kV ESD bus-pin protection. The ISL32704E is priced at $3.79 each/1,000. An ISL32704EVAL1Z evaluation board is also available for $99.
