CONCEPT 1865 ELECTRIC VELOCIPEDE BY DING3000 AND BASF

The 19th Century bicycle becomes an e-velocipede

Vintage is a must for trend setters! Unsurprisingly, we are absolutely fond of the “concept 1865”, based on remodeling the 19th century bicycle and initiated by chemical company BASF and design studio DING3000. What was particularly noticeable with this bicycle was its enlarged front wheel, an element both German companies, BASF and DING3000, wanted to position back in the spotlight.

The team manufactured an e-velocipede aka a modern e-bike made of advanced materials (24 polymer applications): an electric drive to assist the rider, modern BSF plastics (though the brake, axles and motor remain in metal) such as expanded thermoplastic polyurethane for the tires, LED lamps placed in the forks to illuminate efficiently a perfectly transparent and reflecting material (guaranteeing an energy-saving illumination process) etc. When a leader in chemicals and an ingenious designer team up, we experience a vision of what the World’s most impressive inventions would have looked like, with today’s advanced materials.
