Siemens, Diamond Aircraft, and EADS introduce the new "DA36 E-Star 2" with a serial hybrid-electric drive

I believe I can fly! When Siemens teams up with the leading actors of the aviation industry, the results are impressive! In June 2013, Siemens, Diamond Aircraft and EADS orchestrated an inaugural flight for the new DA36 E-Star 2. What makes this collaborative project so special is that it marks the start of a new era. The new generation of DA36 E-Star is equipped with a serial hybrid-electric drive. In more concrete terms, the device makes quiet electric takeoff possible and reduces fuel consumption and emissions (up to 25%). The Integrated Drive System by Siemens, the world record power-to-weight ratio holder, consists of an engine, converter, gear unit and control electronics. The aircrafts are now proven to be suitable for commercial use with 100 passenger capacity.
