LLIY, THE “THROW AND GO” DRONE

Robust Drone Follows You Everywhere You Go and Captures Your Adventures in High-Def

We come across a lot of drones in our daily search for content, and no doubt some are more impressive than others. Whether it is the “Gimbal” collision-proof drone that could improve industrial safety, or the seriously practical AirDog that captures your sporting prowess on the move and in full color. Lily, the new proposition from the UC Berkeley robotics lab, has definitely made a good impression on us.

Lily is more in vein of the Airdog, but it has certain unique features that make it stand out from the crowd. To set it going all you have to do is throw it into the air and hey presto it’s ready to follow you like a faithful dog. Like the AirDog, Lily tracks your movement using GPS and a wearable device, which makes sure it always keeps in sync with you, filming all the action in crisp 1080p definition.

The dependable Lily, flies up to 25 mph (40 km/h) and can film you from a very intimate five feet (1.5 metres) to a somewhat distant 100 feet (30 metres). It is pretty robust too, with the ability to fly in winds up to 15 mph (24 km/h), which is pretty remarkable for a machine that measures 10 x10 inches (25 x 25 cms) and weighs just 2.8 pounds (1.27 kg). Sadly, Lily won’t be ready for delivery before February 2016, but for those of you who order now you’ll get a very generous discount price of USD$499 (€445). If you’re late to the party, it’ll cost you USD$999 (€890).
