STRATASYS PROVIDES OVER 1,000 3D PRINTED PARTS FOR AIRBUS A350 XWB

New Airbus Jet Has More 3D Printed Parts Than Any Other Before It

Stratasys used its FDM 3D Production Systems to 3D print more than 1,000 parts for the new Airbus A350 XWB jet. The sophisticated 3D printer allowed the aircraft giant to reduce production times and costs, as well as use new lightweight materials that have only recently become available to use with additive manufacturing. This means that the A350 XWB contains more 3D printed parts than any other previous civilian jet, setting a precedent that may soon be followed by other aircraft manufacturers. According to some commentators, such as James Woodcock, an expert on additive manufacturing with Rapid News, this use of 3D printed parts in civilian jets is “unprecedented in scale.”
