Centerless Grinding Machine Uses Angular Plunging

The grinding machine features a grinding spindle mounted on maintenance-free hybrid roller bearings for high peripheral speeds of as much as 150 m/sec., and in combination with the machine’s CBN high-speed technology, cycle times and setup times can be significantly reduced.

United Grinding’s Mikrosa Kronos S 250 centerless grinding machine uses angular plunging designed specifically for corundrom and CBN grinding in high precision, mass production. The grinding machine features a grinding spindle mounted on maintenance-free hybrid roller bearings for high peripheral speeds of as much as 150 m/sec., and in combination with the machine’s CBN high-speed technology, cycle times and setup times can be significantly reduced.

The grinding machine is designed for plunge and through grinding of workpieces with diameters ranging from 0.059” to 1.378” (1.5 to 35 mm) with a plunge cut width up to 9.646” (245 mm). The Kronos S 250 features a cross-slide system for grinding and regulating wheels with highly dynamic, digital drives and precision ballscrews that guarantee tremendous flexibility during setup, dressing and grinding.

Another feature of the grinding machine is the dressing of the grinding and regulating wheels via four CNC axes in the center of the workpiece plane. The machine’s design also features a thermally stable, vibration-dampening Granitan machine bed, and a technology spectrum that extends from infeed grinding in single or multiple production to through-feed grinding and oscillation grinding.

The full enclosure of the machine complies with the highest environmental standards, so that the use of different cooling media, such as emulsion or grinding oil, is possible. The wide-opening sliding doors provide user-friendly access to the grinding center, thus simplifying machine setups, the company says.
