BIODEGRADABLE AND 3D PRINTABLE CONCEPT CAR FROM BMW

Collaboration with BMW Bears Interesting Results for Designer Erik Melldahl

Designer Erik Melldahl has teamed up with BMW to create a 3D printable and biodegradable concept car. It looks pretty futuristic and is probably a long way away from being made a reality. However, Melldahl’s collaborative effort does represent an interesting move towards a super eco-friendly car that uses sustainable bio-material in its construction.

Melldahl designed the car called Maasaica, latin for a Kenyan lion, to address the needs and environment of the Maasai tribe in Kenya. The frame of the car would use a simple 3D printable structure enclosed in an organic mushroom mycelium bio-material. The organic body structure would be 100 percent biodegradable and would have a special skin membrane that could recycle rainwater for use in the car.
