LEGACY EFFECTS TO 3D PRINT IRON MAN SUIT FOR THE MILITARY

Hollywood FX Firm to Design Prototype Suit for the US Military

Legacy Effects, the go-to special effects firm in Hollywood, has moved from making props for movies to making prototypes for Uncle Sam. With a list of movie credits covering Pacific Rim, Robocop and more particularly Iron Man to draw upon, the FX firm is now poised to work with the US military on the TALOS project. TALOS, or Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit is a robotic exoskeleton concept that could feature on the battlefield of the future.

Legacy Effects will work on the design and development of the TALOS prototype, and will use their expertise in 3D printing to print components for the suit. When you look at the early design ideas for the TALOS, it doesn’t seem so strange that the military would hire the team behind the Iron Man suit to make their prototype. So far, $10 million has been spent on the TALOS project with the military set to spend another $70 million to have the suit ready for deployment in 2018. We’ll have to wait and see to how it compares to Tony Stark’s creation!
