WILL AUDI’S NEW HYBRID MAKE PLUG-IN CHARGING OBSOLETE?

Audi TT Concept to Recharge Via Wireless Technology

Audi’s Wireless Charging technology looks to have taken a big step forward in it’s bid to replace plug-in charging systems. The recently unveiled Audi TT Offroad Concept will recharge itself using the wireless system. This represents a big vote of confidence for the technology.

Audi’s Wireless Charging technology is made up of a plate, set on the ground, equipped with a coil and an inverter. A power supply is fed into the plate which emits an alternating magnetic field.

Any car fitted with the Audi Wireless Technology can recharge by simply parking over the plate and picking up the 3.3 kW alternating current. The technology is self-regulating and stops charging once the battery is fully charged.

With no wires or cables needed and a similar total charging time to current plug-in technologies the Audi Wireless Technology may soon take over as the standard recharge system for electric vehicles!
