IBM DISCOVERS NEW CLASS OF RECYCLABLE POLYMERS
Researchers Identify First New Class of Plastics in Decades
Researchers at IBM are the first scientists to discover a new class of polymer materials in decades. The new type of synthetic plastics were discovered using computational chemistry, which uses computer simulations to aid in solving chemical problems.
The new plastics have displayed some interesting properties, one version is lightweight and resistant to cracking, another version can ‘self-heal’, both classes are recyclable and could potentially be of major use to the industries of manufacturing, aerospace and micro electronics.
