NASA MEANS MONKEY BUSINESS: PRIMATE-INSPIRED ROBOT FOR DARPA

Robosimian one of six finalists selected for the challenge in December 2014

Robosimian is the NASA-based JPL Robotics lab’s entry to the DARPA robot challenge, that is one of 6 teams selected to continue as a Track A team for the DARPA Robotics Challenge Finals 2014 in December of this year.

As the name Robosimian suggests, this robot is not another humanoid; Robosimian is a primate-inspired disaster-ready droid, teleoperated to carry out deliberate and stable operations. With four working general purpose limbs and hands, Robosimian can easily move around, latch on and climb up ladders, as well as pick up, push through and manipulate objects.
