WORLD’S FIRST METAL 3D BIKE FRAME UNVEILED

At London Bike Show 2014

What do you get when you combine Renishaw’s metal-based additive manufacturing know-how, with the cutting edge design of Empire Cycles? A metal bike frame that is a third lighter and four times stronger!

Using their expertise in metal-based additive manufacturing and ‘topological optimisation’ software – program that determines the ‘logical place’ for material; Renishaw have created a 3D-printed titanium alloy bike frame that is both light and strong.

The Renishaw manufactured printers remove the need for expensive tooling, allowing for continual design improvements to be made right up to production.
