BRIDGESTONE REINVENTS THE WHEEL

Non-pneumatic tires rely on spoke structure, not air

Bridgestone has quite literally reinvented the wheel; an Air Free Concept Tire was revealed in November 2013 at the Tokyo Motor Show. The non-pneumatic tire relies a high strength, high flexibility spoke structure made of thermoplastic resin*1 to provide support to the weight of the car; both the resin and the rubber tire tread are recyclable.

By replacing air with structural support, tires need much less periodical maintenance and tread punctures do not affect functionality. In addition, Bridgestone has succeeded in designing low rolling resistance tires, contributing to CO2 reductions.
