CHIMP ROBOT BY THE NATIONAL ROBOTICS ENGINEERING CENTER

The human-sized robot handling crisis situations

The engineers at the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) would proudly like to introduce you to their latest baby, CHIMP. This human-size robot demonstrates its high level of dexterity by performing various challenging actions, just like any human would do. Don’t be misled by its attractive appearance, CHIMP is not for playing. It was invented to compete in a $2 million U.S. Defense Department prize contest, targeting a noble goal: the development of robotic technologies for crisis situations where it is unsafe for humans to operate. CHIMP, totally at ease in a human environment, can complete impressive tasks with a supervised autonomy. Robots are a man’s best friend.
