Stretched Plexiglas in New Dimensions

Evonic Enables New Design Options for Aircraft Glazing

Evonik Performance Materials GmbH, Essen, Germany, recently opened a new stretching and polishing facility for stretched polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in the German town of Weiterstadt to respond to the emerging trend toward larger aircraft windows in aerospace design. The products are currently qualified in accordance with the standards MIL-P-25690 for the U.S. market and EN 4366 for the European market.

According to the manufacturer, the plates manufactured here with dimensions of up to 3.7 by 5.4 meters have a previously unattainable format size. Aircraft glazings of traffic, military aircraft and helicopters can thus be produced in completely new designs.

Acrylite is used by manufacturers around the world for cabin windows of commercial aircraft as well as for cockpit glazing in aircraft and helicopters.
