UK MILITARY UNVEILS FUTURISTIC UNIFORM DESIGN

The Future Soldier Vision Concept: Integrated Sensors, Customized Armor and Real-Time Data Capture

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the UK has unveiled its vision of what British soldiers will be wearing in 2020. The futuristic military uniform features sensor-laden body armor, a smartwatch that monitors health signs and tactical helmet/eyewear with integrated cameras.

The Future Soldier Vision (FSV) is part the MoD’s plan to provide the British soldiers of the future with the latest technologies and high performance equipment.

The protective helmet integrates hearing protection, three cameras and lightweight sensors for gathering and sharing information. This is complemented by a pair of smart glasses that include a heads-up display for viewing key battlefield data.

The torso sub-system concept includes segmented armor that can be adapted to the user or situation.

Soldiers will wear a smartwatch that keeps track of key biometric data in a similar way to the Apple Watch.
