The First Solar Plane Will Flight Around the World

The route planned for the Solar Impulse 2‘s historic round-the-world flight attempt has just been revealed. We wrote about the first solar powered plane a few months back and we now know more about the details of this amazing voyage.

The trip will entail 25 days of flying, spread over a five month period. Let’s remind you the plane can fly both day and night and will stop in 12 locations around the globe, covering not less than 35 000 km.Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, the Swiss co-founders and pilots will take off from Abu Dhabi in Qatar. Among other cities, the plane will visit Muscat, Oman, Chongqing and Nanjing in China, stop in Hawaii and will even stopover in Phoenix and New York City. A long trip that will begin in late February or early March.
