SELF-HEALING “SKIN” REPAIRS ITSELF AFTER TAKING A BULLET

University of Michigan Team Create Material That Can Heal Itself In seconds

Check out the video below of an amazing material cooked up by scientists at the University of Michigan, US, that is able heal itself after being shot with a gun. The self-repairing “skin” consists of a reactive liquid wedged between two sheets of polymer. When the material is punctured, a substance called tributylborane in the liquid reacts with oxygen and causes it to harden thereby sealing the hole in just a few seconds.

This material could have numerous applications in industry, such as a protective layer for the exterior of planes, or even on satelittes as a defense against space trash strikes, although they would have to devise a solution for an oxygen-less atmosphere.
