The new flange couplings made by RINGFEDER POWER TRANSMISSION GMBH are designed as a mechanic press fit. As with all tapered fits, it is easy to mount and dismount them using a standard tool. Additional components such as keyways or wedges are not required. Neither is it necessary to heat up the outer components or to cool down the inner ones to assemble them. If heat-shrunk flange couplings are used, they can get fastened prematurely in the assembly process; but even that challenge was no match for the ingenious Groß-Umstadt engineers. To dismount couplings, only the shrink disc needs to be loosened. Using oil pressure (i.e. a pump) and hence the conventional, rather problematic and environmentally-challenging process is a thing of the past.

The couplings do not just transmit the torque but also bending moments. Thus, their design lends itself to plant engineering and to the manufacturing of gear systems. In addition, it is an excellent choice for even the most difficult conditions, for example in mining applications. The flange couplings are simply pushed onto the shaft. By tightening the screws using a shrink disc, the fit is frictionally engaged and guarantees high strength reserves as well as high concentricity.
