Profinet communication processor CP 1604 EEC for enhanced environmental conditions

With its new CP 1604 EEC communication processor, Siemens is extending its offering for PC modules with Profinet technology to include a variant for enhanced environmental conditions. The CP can be used in rail applications, permitting a system to be approved in accordance with DIN EN 50155 / IEC 60571.

The new PC communication processor CP 1604 EEC - PCI-104 module - connects field devices to Industrial Ethernet using Profinet. Equipped with Profinet IO controller and device functionality, CP 1604 EEC supports control tasks on a PC, for instance for PC-based, numeric or robot control. Use of Profinet isochronous real time (IRT) makes the communication processor additionally suitable for timecritical applications such as strictly isochronous closed-loop control in motion control. The integrated 4-port switch also enables variable system solutions and the configuration of different topologies. In addition, the module can be integrated into various operating systems by means of Development Kit DK-16xx PN IO. CP 1604 EEC is suited for use in hostile ambient conditions. The communication processor is designed for rail applications and also permits certification of the overall system in accordance with DIN EN 50155 / IEC 60571.
