Siemens is extending its Ethernet switch portfolio for efficient networks

High-performance communication

Siemens is extending its Industrial Ethernet switch portfolio to include new gigabit variants in the Scalance XC-200 product line. These full gigabit devices each come with eight RJ45 ports or six RJ45 and two SFP-fiber optic ports, and enable a data transmission rate of up to one gigabit per second. With their reduced port depth, the new devices are ideally suited for spacesaving control cabinet installation, while permanent monitoring of the fiber optic line increases data communication reliability,

minimizing system downtimes. The switches are ideal for use both in highly available applications involving bandwidth-hungry communication, in railway applications along the tracks (trackside) and also in production. The two new full gigabit versions have been launched to supplement the portfolio of existing devices with up to 24 electrical and two optical ports to cover distances as great as 200 kilometers. Their high transmission rate allows the XC-200 gigabit switches to be used in applications such as height monitoring in tunnels or other traffic infrastructure applications such as video transmissions. The new devices can also be used to advantage in production applications, enabling the

reliable documentation of production batches by transmitting camera shots in high resolution and therefore huge data directly to the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) level. The gigabit switches XC-200 are the same height as the S7-1500. Combined with their low port depth, this design permits exceptionally spacesaving installation. A retaining collar allows a reliable and stable communication

since all FastConnect RJ45 connectors are fully locked in the sockets. Siemens offers a range of

gigabit versions complete with Profinet or EtherNet/IP (EtherNet Industrial Protocol) diagnostics for integration into different automation solutions. New functional features such as the redundancy protocol “H-Sync” support for application in highly available control concepts complete the product spectrum of XC-200 gigabit switches.
