New client modules provide reliable, high-performance connection of end devices

Siemens is expanding its network device portfolio with the new Scalance W1748 client module to 11ac standard. These devices, which are intended for high-end use, complement the Scalance W1788 access points and operate in accordance with the current WLAN (wireless LAN) standard IEEE 802.11ac Wave 2 at a maximum of 1.733 megabits per second. Application examples are a high user density in the network or high-performance transmission of video data. IP65 protection (protection against the ingress of dust and water) ensures these devices are suitable for use in demanding, harsh industrial environments. They also provide a high-performance connection of end devices on mobile applications such as cranes, railways and Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) through their integral switch with two gigabit Ethernet ports. This client module for wireless connection of devices requiring high bandwidths utilizes MU-MIMO (multiuser-multiple input multiple output) technology. This allows a Scalance W1788 access point to communicate with more than one Scalance W1748 client at the same time which increases data throughput. The robust design with IP65 protection and the tightly bolted M12 and N-Connect connections mean this unit can be fitted outside control panels. The iFeature iPRP (industrial Parallel Redundancy Protocol) developed for industry ensures seamless redundancy via WLAN using the removable medium CLP. In mobile applications, the redundant wireless communication ensures reliable data transmission. This new generation of the Scalance W1700 family fits neatly into the existing portfolio due to the proven Scalance W parameterization interfaces.
