Ground is broken for new SIKO building in Bad Krozingen

SIKO GmbH, the Buchenbach-based manufacturer of sensors and positioning systems, has taken a decisive step towards the future of its 240 employees worldwide with the construction of a new site in Bad Krozingen.

SIKO GmbH, the Buchenbach-based manufacturer of sensors and positioning systems, has taken a decisive step towards the future of its 240 employees worldwide with the construction of a new site in Bad Krozingen. The official ground-breaking ceremony for the new building, in the “Am Krozinger Weg” industrial district, was held on March 22 in the presence of the mayor of Bad Krozingen, Volker Kieber, the SIKO shareholders Horst and Ursula Wandres, SIKO director Sven Wischnewski, SIKO plant manager Rolf Germann and the two architects, Tobias Hahlbrock and Andreas Wiskandt.

During the gathering, SIKO shareholder Horst Wandres presented the mayor, Volker Kieber, with a check for €5000 as a donation to the Bad Krozingen civic foundation.

With this significant step the company, which has been based in Buchenbach since 1963, will expand its production and management capacity in Germany. Once the site is ready, the manufacture of electronic products will be transferred to the 5000 m² of new space in Bad Krozingen, along with the sales and marketing departments. As can be seen from the computer-generated 3D image, the new facility in Markgräflerland will be constructed according to the latest building and production technology standards. The investment volume, including machines and facilities, will be roughly €12 million.

Some 60-70 SIKO employees will be able to move into the impressive manufacturing and administration building at around the end of 2019 or early 2020. Alongside the electronics production facility with high-tech machinery for manufacturing items such as circuit boards, modern offices will be built for the clerical staff. SIKO has always prioritized ergonomic production and office workplaces. The project is rounded off by an in-house employee canteen, along with e-mobility charging points in the company parking lot. It is planned that the electric charging points will be sustainably supplied with green electricity from a large photovoltaic system.

SIKO’s customer base is broad. As a result, SIKO measurement and positioning systems can be found across a variety of sectors in industry and engineering. SIKO products have become indispensable, for example, for efficient format settings on packaging machines or the automated production of leading mobile phone manufacturers. Astonishingly, specially developed SIKO sensors can even be found in construction machinery in order to improve their efficiency and safety.

As for why Bad Krozingen was chosen, director Sven Wischnewski cites the logistically attractive location of the “Am Krozinger Weg” industrial district and the consistently positive communication with local officials as reasons. Sven Wischnewski states: “In making our decision, the location close to the autobahn and the public transport links were just as important to us as the constant readiness and high level of flexibility of our partners in the negotiation, the town of Bad Krozingen. It simply suited us.”

SIKO is globally active and has subsidiaries in Switzerland, Italy, China, Singapore and the U.S. In order to accommodate global growth, it is wise for us at SIKO to look to the future
