Softing Industrial and Transtek Pty Ltd, an Australian provider of instrumentation and mobile devices for hazardous areas, signed a distribution agreement for Softing's mobile multiprotocol interface "mobiLink".

Softing’s mobiLink is an intrinsically safe mobile commissioning and maintenance interface for field devices. It provides a single communication solution for the major protocols used in process automation: HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and PROFIBUS PA. mobiLink has IECEx Zone 1 approval and, thanks to its battery operation and Bluetooth interface, enables the use of mobile hosts such as tablets and smartphones.

The benefits of partnering with Transtek for the Australian market are underlined by Thomas Hilz, Vice President Product Marketing & Strategic Accounts at Softing: “We chose Transtek because the company has been successfully selling HART communications systems and certified mobile devices for potentially hazardous areas for more than 15 years. Transtek knows the Australian requirements for hazardous areas, telecommunications and emissivity standards. Working with the Transtek specialists enables us to expand our presence in the Australian market and further optimize support for our customers there.”

Rob Stone, Managing Director of Transtek, said: "The mobiLink device unlocks multi-protocol mobile device communication. We can finally offer our clients a truly ‘Smart’ instrument configuration solution, rather than archaic and expensive single function communicators. In doing so, mobiLink allows our customers to meet their IoT data capture and analysis objectives, while working smarter and more efficiently. Our mobile device options enable the benefits of mobiLink to be extended into the field, even when used in potentially explosive environments, to maintain both plant and worker safety.”
