Fast customising procedure for specialised industrial enclosures

At Spelsberg, a face-to-face discussion about the requirements marks the start of every custom order, so the most crucial questions are clarified at the outset. Details such as materials, processing and protection rating are all taken into consideration during the planning since enclosures outdoors or in industrial environments must satisfy stricter standards than those in offices or residences. In addition, the customer`s schedule and budget can be taken into account early.

The entire customising process - from the idea to the production model - lasts from three to six months, depending on project scale. The individual steps mesh like gears. First a three-dimensional CAD model is developed based on the customer requirements. Then Spelsberg uses a 3D printer to produce the first detailed prototypes, which allow initial tests of the new product`s functionality and fit. In terms of material, quality and colour, the preproduction models correspond to the production enclosures and can already be used in certification processes. Like all Spelsberg products, finished custom products are tested and certified in accordance with TÜV, VDE or UL in Spelsberg`s in-house test centre.

One of the most successful results of this customising process is a motor starter housing manufactured for Siemens AG in Leipzig. In harsh industrial environments, the custom-adapted TK 1818 enclosure provides reliable protection for the sensitive motors. The product, made of impact-resistant plastic, was fitted with a wall-mounted enclosure and precision-milled recesses specially for Siemens. Originally developed as a custom solution, it has since found its way into the standard range at Siemens.
