Small Powerhouses: Syslogic has equipped the Compact S and Compact M industrial computers with Atom E3845 processors

Nürnberg, February 24, 2015

The embedded specialist, Syslogic, has gone one better by equipping its Compact S and Compact M series with the high performing Atom E3845 processors from Intel. Just a year ago, the company had suited its Compact SL series with the Atom E3845 processors (Bay Trail).

Compact dimensions and high-performing processors

Syslogic is a pioneer with the Compact S and Compact M series. These high performing industrial computers with quad-core processors are distinguished by their ultra-compact construction. The Compact M is two-leveled allowing room for an expansion card or additional interface while the Compact S offers the less expensive, single-board version.

With the Atom E3845 processors, these compact industrial computers have become real powerhouses. The industrial 64-bit processors herald in a new era for the embedded sector. These industrial computers can master the balancing act between higher computational speed and lower power consumption because of the 1.91 gigahertz clock speed while using less than 10 watts of power. The low power intake of the processor produces little heat which in turn has a positive effect on its lifespan and functional safety.

No compromises in durability

As with all industrial computers by Syslogic, those in the Compact S and Compact M series have no moving parts. The box computers are suitable for extended temperature ranges of -40 to +70 degrees Celsius and can operate 24/7. And their sturdy housing makes the box computers suitable for use in harsh industrial settings.

Versatile interfaces provide flexibility

The interface structure of the Compact S and Compact M computers can be individually configured. The PCs have CAN, USB, RS232 and RS422/485 interfaces; they can be equipped with up to three EtherCat-compatible Ethernet ports, and can be expanded with WLAN, GPS, GSM and Bluetooth modules. This means that Syslogic can guarantee that the systems can be flexibly connected.

The box computers also come with preinstalled embedded operating systems such as Windows Embedded 7, Windows Embedded 8 or Linux.

20 years of "form, fit and function" if needed

The Syslogic industrial computers win points not only for their fast initial start-up and uncompromising industrial construction, they also have long-term availability. Florian Egger, sales manager at Syslogic, says: "We can deliver 20 years of shape, fit and function upon request." At Syslogic, extended availability for products is already being considered in the development phase, according to Egger.

The company exclusively uses components which will be available long-term. Only processor platforms are used which are listed in an embedded roadmap guaranteeing availability for ten years or more. Another reason why the product life cycle at Syslogic is longer than with other suppliers is because it has in-house fabrication and, above all, because of its vertical range of manufacture. Syslogic is one of the few European companies in the embedded sector which assembles its CPU boards itself. The company has its own SMD assembly. Thanks to this in-house manufacturing, Syslogic can make reliable prognoses regarding availability in contrast to other suppliers who, for example, finish a board made in Asia with their own housing.
