Technology Department invited professor from China University of Mining and Technology to conduct performance analysis of slewing drive
The slewing drive is used in excavator bucket for automatic rotation, during actual work, it occurs the phenomenon of worm bending and worm gear damage under larger impact load and output torque. Wish to figure out the reason of slewing drive worm failure and conduct continuous improvement with the help of professor.
According to the failure form and state of slewing drive worm, Material Engineering Laboratory from CUMT mainly use metallographic structure analysis, tensile and impact load performance test, surface nitriding layer metallographic and hardness test, slew drive gear fracture analysis and other means to analyze its failure process. From the experimental results, the slewing drive worm itself is with better plasticity and higher toughness, but the inside hardness is slightly lower.
From the analysis, on the one hand, the slewing drive worm is blocked during transmission process, but the power input mechanism did not stop in time, resulting in overload of the worm, bending deformation and shear failure. On the other hand, the strength of slewing drive worm is low, the yield strength of worm is not obvious. According to the requirements, our company adjusted the parameters of slewing drive worm quenching and tempering process. Under the case of normal quenching temperature, through reduce tempering temperature to improve the hardness of slewing drive worm.
