Zwick supplies sheet metal testing machine to Korean steel company

Zwick supplies sheet metal testing machine to Korean steel company.

Automobile builders are employing ever-stronger metallic materials for formed components. Materials with greater strength demand higher test loads, equating to higher drawing forces when forming sheet metals. To handle these testing requirements a Korean steel company uses a Zwick sheet metal testing machine (BUP) for test loads up to 1,000 kN at its R&D site.

The Korean steel company uses the 1000 kN sheet metal testing machine primarily for determination of the required material characteristic values as part of its R&D activities. Equipped with suitable fixtures and accessories, the machine is used to determine forming limit curves (FLC) as per ISO 12004. For this test the machine is equipped with GOM’s ARAMIS optical measuring system.

In its current version the Standard requires a drawing-punch diameter of 100 mm, so that an increased force-range of up to 1000 kN is required for higher-strength materials. Easy tool and fixture changing enables additional standard tests, e.g. Erichsen cupping test (EN ISO 20482), conical hole-expansion test (ISO 16630) or limit drawing Ratio (LDR) test. Cupping tests to determine waviness can also be performed in accordance with VW factory standard PV1054.

The function display with remote-control capability, together with hydraulic operation of the tool head for specimen insertion and removal, simplify handling in day-to-day operation. For detailed investigation of sheet metal forming, the drawing force, Holding force and drawing-punch travel can be uploaded via the testControl electronics and processed and analyzed with Zwick's standard testXpert testing software.
