ABUS control technology ABUControl combines comfort, safety and ease of servicing

Crane operators across the globe can now count on the new ABUS control technology ABUControl.

Defining travel and hoist profiles

Whether it's two fixed speeds, continuous travelling at a freely selectable speed for e.g. positioning a sensitive load or setting a fixed travel and hoist profile – with ABUControl a crane's driving characteristics and travel profiles can be optimally adjusted to the customer's specific circumstances during the manufacturing process. This means a high degree of operating comfort for crane operators.

Activating sway control for loads

The ABUS sway control increases not only operating comfort but also safety during the transportation of goods in sensitive areas. The crane operator can use the ABURemote radio remote control to activate the sway control function. For this, the operator first has to enter the length of the lifting tackle, as this value then enters a mathematical model. Using additional parameters, this model determines the expected swinging movement caused by the crane's changes in speed and direction of travel. A command is sent to the crane or trolley based on this data in order to offset the swinging movement. The video shows a specific example using crane travel with and without sway control.

Synchronising speeds

Synchronisation control and the tandem control system also ensure additional safety: the synchronisation control guarantees safe handling of a long load, such as a pipe or a steel profile, if there are two trolleys on a crane, so that there is not a divergence of lifting speeds – even if there are different wire rope hoists. For this, the crane needs to be equipped with a frequency converter for lifting. The travel speeds of cranes which run in tandem operation can also be regulated. Depending on the characteristics of the goods to be transported, two cranes with a maximum of four hoists can then be used in tandem operation.

Building on standard modules

Convenience and safety even during servicing: The electronic modules used in the ABUControl control technology originate from industrial automation, with all modules being installed individually and each being assigned one function. Therefore, individual functional components such as frequency converters and fuse isolating links can be replaced quickly and easily during servicing. ABUControl relies on tried-and-trusted freely available components from renowned international electronics manufacturers. Replacement or repair do not have to be exclusively performed by ABUS, nor are software licences required for accessing the control.

Access to crane data at all times

Access to the crane's operating data and settings are also convenient and safe. Using the modern KranOS user interface, access is possible from a browser on any laptop or tablet. The visualisation uses current web technology and is therefore just as easy to use as a website. The crane is connected using an installed WiFi router which provides ABUControl to each crane.
