The innovative Dutch start-up company has teamed up with ACE absorber GmbH from Germany to develop a special anti-tremor orthosis.

Tremor is defined as a rhythmic, involuntary oscillating movement of a body part. Although everyone trembles from time to time, for example when they are nervous, this slight tremor does not interfere with everyday activities. However, other pathologies result in a disabling tremor. Essential tremor is the most common neurological movement disorder and affects more than 5.8% of the population over 65 years of age worldwide. It is estimated that over 10 million people on earth suffer from Parkinson's disease. Both disorders can cause great difficulty in performing activities of daily living, such as eating and drinking. Although tremor can sometimes be treated with pharmacotherapy or surgery, these treatments have drawbacks. Drugs produce limited tremor reduction in about half of the tremor population. Surgery can be a dangerous procedure for some people, and the effectiveness of such treatment is likely to decrease over the years. In this context, treatments that effectively address the tremor by modifying the biomechanics of the limb may represent a viable alternative solution.
