Leak testing of aerospace valves: validation 90% faster

Validation time fell by 90% with a laminar DP mass flow meter in the test stand.

A supplier of valves for space launch vehicles validated each valve with bubble counts and pressure-decay tests, about five to ten minutes per valve. It integrated an Alicat laminar differential pressure mass flow meter into its leak test stand: each valve is leak-tested, then flipped and flowed forward at a set rate. Validation time fell by 90%, with an accuracy of ±0.5% of reading or ±0.1% of full scale and a repeatability of ±(0.1% of reading + 0.02% of full scale). The meter logs the test data, which goes back to design to improve the valve.
