Holding a sealed chamber within 0.3 mbar of setpoint
The internal pressure has not gone beyond 0.3 mbar of setpoint for several months.
A research spectrograph needed the air pressure inside its sealed 1,800-litre chamber stable to ±5 mbar, with a design goal of ±1 mbar, despite air leakage and long-term changes in ambient barometric pressure. Alicat modified one of its standard products: a dual-valve pressure controller that takes in dry air or vents to atmosphere when needed, with a deadband to reduce unnecessary valve activity, and suppresses disturbances within about 30 ms. Mounted outside the chamber with a remote pressure sensor, it has been operating for several months, and the internal pressure has not gone beyond 0.3 mbar of setpoint, exceeding the target by 3x.
